What is Unix time?
Unix time counts the seconds elapsed since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970 (the "epoch"), ignoring leap seconds. It's the standard machine representation of time across operating systems, databases and APIs because it's a single unambiguous number, immune to time zones and formatting.
Seconds or milliseconds?
Unix timestamps in seconds have 10 digits (until the year 2286); JavaScript and Java commonly use milliseconds, which have 13. This tool auto-detects which one you pasted based on magnitude.
